An Open Letter to American Elected Officials

We all saw the events unfold. The videos are everywhere, and the lingering destruction serves as a constant reminder. I’m not talking about the Insurrection on January 6th, I’m talking about the cowards and sycophants that pretended to care about the people of this country after. I’m talking about the blatant disregard for fact in an effort to hold on to political power. I’m talking about disgraces to the nation such as Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy.

I’m a war veteran that couldn’t be more disgusted with the state of our nation. Our country’s “leaders” are going out of their way to convince us that what our eyes see does not exist. To tell us that we need to move on from one of the most telling, and terrifying events in our nation’s history all because it looks bad for them. We are expected to go along with whatever talking points are being given to us, because those are the people we voted for so they MUST be right. They use trigger phrases like “Anglo-Saxon values” to hide behind and mask their racism and xenophobia.

The GOP has turned American politics into a debate over MORALITY, not a debate over conservative or liberal.

The fact that the GOP embraced such an obvious criminal and horrible human being over the values they project is all the proof you need that their priorities are their own private agendas, not the will of the people or the integrity of this country. Time and again they change the rules after losing because they can’t play by the same rules as everyone else and win. They know they’re pushing antiquated “values” that denigrate and demean people of color and indigenous populations. They attack and insult until you give up and walk away, then call it a victory. They come at you with anger because they have NO FACTS to support their OPINIONS.

Well, where I grew up in America, a victory comes from defeating your opponent. Not from crying about your loss and trying to pretend it didn’t happen. Not from murdering innocent people (POLICE OFFICERS) because you’re upset and angry the country isn’t as racist as you are. Where I come from in America, that’s a CRIME, and it is punishable under the laws that govern our country. That is, if you’re a citizen of the country, not if you’re a politician. Then, the rules, the laws, the truth…they don’t matter do they? All that matters to you, is how you maintain your grip on power and keep lining yours and your corporate friends’ pockets.

You may not care about what history will say about you or the events that have been unfolding. You may not care that your children and their children will pay for your hate and ignorance. You may not even care if you go to prison, so long as you achieve your goals of dividing this country and fomenting hate and intolerance. But AMERICA CARES. And, America WILL hold you accountable. Because America is for ALL PEOPLE, regardless of race, religion or any other differentiating factor.
